Friends and fellow members of the uӠɑ Auckland Network,

 

We stand today at an important moment in our history. For years, this Network has been held together by dedication, by goodwill, and by the belief that lifelong learning is not just an activity—it is a community. It is something we build together, protect together, and pass on together.
 

But now, we face a constitutional reality. Both Margaret and I have served beyond our allowable terms under the Network’s Purpose and Policies. We have done our part, gladly and proudly, and it is now time—well past time—for us to retire from these roles.
 

And that means something very simple: We need volunteers. Not someday. Not eventually. We need volunteers now for the roles of President and Secretary to be nominated at our next AGM in November.
 

Let me be absolutely clear: the Network is in excellent shape. Financially strong. Well‑organised. Supported by capable people who will continue to help. The hard yards have been done. The foundations are solid. The systems are in place. Whoever steps forward will not be stepping into chaos—they will be stepping into a well‑run organisation ready for the next chapter.
 

All that is needed is experience on a local uӠɑ committee. Many of you already have that. Many of you already know how things work. Many of you already have the skills—and more importantly, the heart—to carry this forward.
 

So I ask you: Do you believe we have a good thing going here? Do you believe the Network matters? Do you believe uӠɑ Auckland deserves to continue thriving?
 

If the answer is yes, then the next step is yours.
 

Reluctance to get involved has become the plague of our generation. We say we’re busy. We say someone else will do it. We say we’ve done enough. But if everyone says that, nothing survives. Not clubs. Not communities. Not the things we value.
 

We cannot allow that reluctance to be the reason this Network falters. Not after all we have built. Not after all the years of shared effort. Not when the future can be secured simply by a few willing hands.
 

So today, I am asking—no, I am urging—you to step up. Put your name forward. Take a role. Be part of the continuation of something worthwhile.
 

This Network has given so much to so many. Now it needs a few of you to give back.
 

Let’s ensure that what we have created does not fade, but flourishes. Let’s show that our generation is still capable of leadership, service, and commitment. Let’s keep the uӠɑ Auckland Network strong for the years ahead.
 

I know I speak for Margaret when I say that we will continue to offer help if and when needed.
